Breakthroughs

Well, if you’ve been following along, you know that Ultrablamtacular has been undergoing some changes lately. Well, in the past week or so, two important changes have made themselves known to me. They’re not in the game text yet, so here’s a real sneak preview of what’s to come.

First up: The problem with Villain combat is now addressed, I think. There were two distinct combat systems in the game – and that was one combat system too many. Villain combat should now be a lot more like Minion combat mechanically, while, I hope, retaining a distinct feel in play. There are other benefits, too. Statting up a Villain on the fly is still really easy. I’ll try to post at greater length about it when it’s not half past midnight.

Second: The Trust rating is out of here. The concept stays. But tracking Trust separately from Confidence was broken. I’m eliminating that, simplifying character creation, character tracking, and reducing the number of consequences you might have to consider for any given roll. All while retaining the thing that Trust is for.

Yay.

Ok, I’m curious to see how you’ve worked this bit with the Trust. I can’t wait to read another draft — or, you know, to playtest anytime after five weeks from now!

First of all, I want you to know that the mere mention of your imminent return has triggered gala celebrations in the streets. You’d think we’d signed an armistice or something.

Second, I think you’ll find I address the Trust thing in my next post. I hope I do, because I wrote it as a reply to your comment!
